Gio Ponti

Biography

Gio Ponti was one of the most important figures in twentieth-century architecture and the arts. He graduated in Milan in 1921, served as artistic director of Richard Ginori from 1923 to 1930 and founded Domus magazine in 1928. From the “typical homes” of the late 1920s to his work for the Milan Triennale, he combined Italian culture with a restless interest in modernity. With Antonio Fornaroli and Alberto Rosselli he conceived an extraordinary series of projects spanning furniture, design and architecture, including the Superleggera chair, the Pirelli skyscraper, Villa Planchart, the Hotel Parco dei Principi, the Denver Art Museum and Taranto Cathedral.
