Domus console

Ignazio Gardella - 1941

The design of this console was initially presented by Domus magazine in May 1941, in an article titled “Pianta e arredamento di un alloggio in città” (lit. ``Floor plan and furniture of a city lodging``).
Modularity and free arrangement of components are the cornerstones of this project, concepts that were embryonic at the time but have become very relevant later on, up to the present day.
Ignazio Gardella's design projects are like his architectural plans: detailed but essential in form, so that they can enter discreetly, even today, the rooms of every home. This console designed in 1941 consists of a suspended base made of national walnut wood, with drawers and protuberances that serve as integrated handles, surmounted by a Carrara marble top with a silhouette that recalls the same shapes.
