Biography

Ignazio Gardella (Milan, 1905 – Oleggio, 1999) was one of the leading figures in twentieth-century Italian architecture. He graduated first in Civil Engineering and later in Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. Before the war he completed a series of works for clients in Piedmont and Lombardy, whose needs he continued to interpret during the Reconstruction period while proposing a new idea of architecture. In 1947 he founded Azucena with Luigi Caccia Dominioni and Corrado Corradi Dell’Acqua. Gardella continued designing furniture and accessories into the 1990s alongside an internationally renowned architectural practice spanning public and private works.
